We are excited to report that after months of design, planning, and permitting, construction has finally started on a new 2,400 sf addition to AEC’s offices in Freeport, Maine. AEC has been operating out of this location for more than 30 years. Our understanding is that originally the building held the printing presses for L.L. Bean, who famously distributed millions of catalogs over the years. The building was expanded twice as AEC grew; once in 1990 and again in 1997. This expansion will be a metal building with high ceiling and open interior. It will add 2,400 square feet of much-needed fabrication space. The extra room and 10′ x12′ overhead door will accommodate larger enclosures and projects of higher quantities. And we can finally get rid of the two shipping containers that have been providing materials storage for the past year!

Integrated architecture and construction firm Woodhull of Portland, ME provided design services and will be overseeing construction. Freeport’s town planning office was helpful facilitating a zoning ordinance amendment that was necessary to make the expansion possible. Construction is scheduled to happen over the summer and be completed early in the Fall.
