MAME Industry Tour of Front Street Shipyard

AEC Engineering attended the Manufacturers Association of Maine’s industry tour to Front Street Shipyard to see their new waterjet cutting machine which is the largest in the Northeast. The machine was made by Illinois-based Waterjet USA LLC and is the largest model the company has ever built and installed. The material table size is 41 feet by 13 feet with a 20-inch Z axis. Cutting is done with ultra high-pressure water which can cut marble, granite, glass, ceramic, composite materials, metals, and alloys. According to Front Street Shipyard’s website, “The waterjet cutting process doesn’t produce any mechanical or thermal deformations on the material, nor does it require any additional processing since the contoured surface of the cut is perfectly finished.” Very cool!
