Posted on Google’s Help Center page, it says
To help keep your account secure, from May 30, 2022, Google no longer supports the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign into your Google Account using only your username and password.
If you’re experiencing mysterious communication issues with devices, this may be the cause. A good example of this is our multi-function printer which inexplicably stopped its ability to scan/send documents. This not only was an inconvenience and unnecessary distraction, it almost became a very costly service call by a copier repairman. It may have become even more costly because I was going to smash it to pieces with a sledgehammer in aggravation! Another good example of a third-party app is the alarm communication from a pumping station. Our programmer Jon was able to fix our scanner/printer because he had also recently fixed this issue with two customer’s pumping stations. The user name/password method of sign in is now considered “less secure” and Google is shutting down this feature. Multi-factor authentication is now the standard. If you are facing (or experiencing) this problem, one answer is to upgrade your devices and/or their software. Another option is to create an “app password(s)”. An app password is a 16-digit passcode that gives a non-Google app or device permission to access your Google Account. Either way, AEC Engineering can help. Give us a call or email.
