AEC recently completed a control panel upgrade for the water treatment facility serving Frye Island on Sebago Lake, helping keep things running smoothly for the seasonal community.

Frye Island is a small, unique town located on an island in Sebago Lake in Cumberland County, Maine. With a very small year round population (less than 30 people), it is best known as a seasonal residential and recreational summer retreat. It is accessible only by ferry or private boat from the mainland.

AEC Engineering was asked to replace and upgrade an old Automation Direct ‘Direct Logic 205’ PLC in the treatment plant & pump house, design and build new control panels, and re-write the PLC program. AEC chose a Schneider M241 PLC processor as a rugged, time-tested, and cost-effective solution for this application. Installation, including the necessary electrical conduit and power wiring, was performed by Nate Barrett, AEC’s Master Electrician.

AEC also installed VTScada software onto a new Dell workstation for the plant operators. This SCADA software will be used to efficiently operate the system, and provide important notifications and alarms.

The new control system brings improved reliability, easier monitoring, and more efficient day-to-day operation for facility staff. By modernizing these critical controls, the upgrade helps ensure consistent water quality while making the system simpler to manage and maintain.

AEC is pleased to deliver a practical, long-lasting solution that will support the island’s needs now and into the future.
