AEC Engineering will be engineering, fabricating, and programming several Control Panels, and implementing a new SCADA system, as part of a large project to upgrade the Schoodic Peninsula water treatment facilities, which are part of the Acadia National Park system.
The scope of the project consists of renovation of deteriorated lift stations with new pumps, mechanical components, and controls; repair of the supervisory control and data acquisitions (SCADA) system; inspection and replacement of wastewater collection lines; well house construction, and improvements to minimize freezing potential. The project will be implemented by Sargent Corporation.
ACE Engineering’s scope includes developing engineered AutoCAD drawings for the Water Treatment Plant control panel, Mater Remote Telemetry panel, and several pump station panels. AEC will also be supplying a network rack with two redundant servers, UPS, operator interface, and work station PC. For this project AEC chose PLC’s from Schneider Electric and is using SCADA software from VTScada as specified by the project engineer. Communication from the remote stations will be through a licensed Motorola radio system provided by TCS Systems.
Some interesting factoids about the Schoodic Peninsula:
- Land originally owned by John D. Rockefeller
- Served as a Naval radio base from 1935 to 2002
- Following base decommissioning in 2002, land was acquired by the National Park Service (NPS)
- Now home to Schoodic Education and Research Center (SERC) in partnership with NPS
