The 2023 Northern Force Robotics Team [ FIRST #172 ] was made up of 30 high school students and 21 mentors, including AEC panel technician Sarah Greenlaw. In addition to the high school team, a group of middle-schoolers participated in the age appropriate “Lego League”. The team is open to middle and high school students from Gorham, Falmouth, Westbrook, and other Southern Maine communities without a local FRC team. This year a brand-new team was formed for students in the Kennebunk area. The FIRST #172 team operates out of a 25,000 sq ft facility, called the STEM Coliseum, located at the Maine Mall in South Portland, ME. The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to pursue STEM education and careers. They do this by engaging kids in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills while having fun. Their programs are also designed to develop self-confidence, communication and leadership. AEC Engineering is pleased to support this mission and the FIRST 172 team, and employee Sarah Greenlaw, as they inspire young engineers!
